This is a place for fans of the Marvel universe to come discuss all things Marvel. Classroom discussions will vary depending on the number of students each week, The conversation might focus on a specific Marvel character. We might talk about the aspects of this character: the description, the character's greatest desire, the obstacles in the character's path, how this changes over time and how it affects the character's story line. Or we might just talk about what makes this character cool. Often, students will have different opinions and different favorite characters. We might talk about which character is stronger or braver or discuss who would win in a fight. This is a discussion-style classroom so students are encouraged to share their thoughts and insights each week. Students should have some understanding of the Marvel universe. (We do talk about a wide range of the Marvel movies, although I try to keep spoilers to a minimum, when possible.) Types of characters the students can expect to talk about include Thor, Captain America, Groot, Ant Man, Spider Man, etc.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be discussing Marvel characters, so our conversation will most likely transfer over into the Avengers (and other Marvel) movies. Most of these movies are rated PG-13, although I will attempt to keep our conversations age appropriate.
Supply List
This is a discussion-style class, so no additional material is needed.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Spalding University
I have a Master's Degree in Creative Writing for Children and Young Adults. For the past four years I have worked with elementary and middle school students. I have seen first hand how much Marvel has become a part of their lives! Whenever I want a child to open up to me, I ask a question about the Avengers, sit back, and watch the conversation flow! It's a great way for a child to learn to express themselves and have time where they are being heard.
