Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
During the first class session, learners will be introduced to the setting of the book, which is Europe (modern-day France) during the ice age. We will look at a timeline to get a sense of how long ago the ice age was in comparison to other events in world history, and will discuss the meaning of "prehistory." We will look at artifacts and artwork of the Madeleine people and learn to ask basic anthropological cultural questions: how did these people meet their basic needs, such as shelter and...
Students will gain an understanding of how people lived during the ice age. Students will be able to identify physical characteristics and personality traits of fictional characters, and will be able to identify how an author can use words and phrases to anthropomorphize non-living things in literature. Students will be able to describe a story arc and know what a "turning point" is in a story.
