Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
1. Introductions: I will introduce myself, and ask students to tell me their names and age (if they feel comfortable sharing).
2. We will go over online classroom expectations.
-We listen to who is speaking.
-We wait patiently for our turn to speak.
-We raise our hand if we have a question or want to share something with the class.
3. Pre-read Question: What is one thing you already know about the Kraken? Students will use this time to share one fact they already know about the Kraken. I will never call on a student who does not want to share. I will never force shyer students to share or talk. :)
4. I will read about the Kraken to the students from a PowerPoint. I will not be reading word-for-word, but I will use the PowerPoint as a starting point to then describe more in-depth details to students about the Kraken. We will discuss what the Kraken is, where it lives, what it is known for, and how it could have been a Giant/Colossal Squid or Giant Octopus. We will discuss if the Kraken is fact or fiction. We will pause to discuss what we are learning and check for comprehension throughout class.
5. We will answer comprehension questions about what we learned.
6. We will draw the Kraken. I encourage a lot of discussion and participation during class, so we may not have a lot of time to draw. It usually depends on how talkative and interactive students are during class.
** Sometimes my classes run a few minutes over because students are excited and want to share what they know about the subject. If you have to leave before I officially end class, I completely understand.
** If a class time I have listed does not work for you, feel free to message me or request a time.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about what the Kraken may be, what it may look like, how we know it may have existed, and what it is known to do. Then, students will learn about three animals they may prove the Kraken's existence, which are Giant/Colossal Squids and Giant Octopi.
