Class Experience

In this fun and exciting marbling class, I will demonstrate how to marble using ink in water. Marbling is easy to learn and is for beginners as well as advanced art learners. The art learners will have a chance to do the marbling artwork in class. The marbling comes out different and is always a surprise when you lift the paper out of the water. While we talk about abstract design, we will learn how to use colors to enhance the artwork. We will also be talking about what contrasting and complementary colors are and be able to use that knowledge to create vibrant artwork. The marbling artwork can be displayed as it is or can be used in other artwork like a collage or as a background in a painting. At the end of class, we will brainstorm other artwork that we can use our marbling paper in. As an art teacher I encourage creativity in my classes and will provide opportunities for the art learners to come up with their own color combinations, share their own ideas and to hear from other learners.

If you don't see any class times that fit your schedule please message me what times will work for you.
Hope to see your art learners in class.
Learning Goals
Learners will have the opportunity to learn about abstract design, complimentary colors and contrasting colors. They will be able to apply this understanding of color and design to all art work.

Parental Guidance
Please make sure each learner is in a quiet space and that they know how to mute and unmute their microphone. How much they get to unmute will depend on how much noise is in the background. Parents may need to be available to assist the art learner in changing the water if needed. It is possible to do several marbling artworks in the same water without changing it. This is a personal preference, and you will want to discuss this with your child before class begins. Adult supervision may be needed while the learners are dripping the ink into the water. The art learners will need the specific ink and paper I list on the supply list to do this marbling. There are a variety of marbling inks and paper and they do work differently. The ink and rice paper I have chosen (and have used myself for several years), is listed on the supply list and are both economical and long lasting. Please watch the video to see the supplies needed.
Supply List
Bokuundo marbling ink (Suminagashi is the brand of ink), different brands do work different (this is available online to order). Make sure you DO NOT order the Origami marbling kit that ink is transparent and doesn't work as well.
Rice paper or marbling paper only (most paper has chemicals in it which prevent the ink from sticking to it).
A rectangle shaped container to hold the water. The paper will need to lay flat on the water or you can cut the paper to fit the container you have.
A long paint brush or stick (for moving ink in the water).
Towel laying next to the container of water to put the wet paper on. (The ink sticks to the paper, the only thing dripping is the water).
Container half full of lukewarm water.

I have taught in person art classes for the past 7 years. This marbling class was one of the most requested classes I taught. I look forward to the art learners at Outschool enjoying it just as much as my previous students have.
