In this class, I will teach your student all the necessary tools they need to become fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Using visuals, games, and an engaging TPR(total physical response)-based method of instruction, I'll help your child interact with this language in a fun and easy-to-follow way! Your child will work on correct pronunciation of the four tones used in Mandarin, building a strong vocabulary of common words and phrases, and become adept at asking and answering questions related to a wide variety of topics. The basic structure of the class curriculum for Unit One is as follows- Section 1: Self Introduction. Your student will learn how greet a new friend, as well as introduce their name and age. They will also learn how to ask the name and age of another individual. Your student will also begin learning how to count from 1-10. Section 2: My Feelings. Your student will learn how to ask and answer the question "How are you?" by expressing different emotions. Your student will also begin learning how to identify different colors in Mandarin. Section 3: I Am Hungry/Thirsty. Section 4: I Need ______. Section 5: I Want______. Section 6: I Like ______. Section 7: Review. In this portion of the curriculum, your student will use the knowledge they have gained in prior classes to engage in a one-on-one dialogue. This is the capstone challenge for Unit One. After completing this first unit, your student will be comfortable using Mandarin Chinese on a beginner level.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
My name is Teacher Becky. I am 28 years old and I have studied Chinese for about eight years now. I graduated from Florida International University in 2014 with my bachelor's in International Relations and Asian Studies. In 2012 I traveled to Zhejiang Province through one of FIU's study abroad programs. I studied at a prominent university, Zhejiang Da Xue for one month; it was truly an amazing experience! I have also competed in several collegiate Mandarin speaking competitions sponsored by the Confucius Institute. Now I teach English to Chinese students, and have branched out into teaching Mandarin at a local private school. I am eager to expand my virtual learning base, and look forward to meeting and working with new students through Outschool!
