What's included
Homework
1 hour per week. Along with the course content I highly suggest that learners spend a few minutes every day to do their Travserse flashcards.Class Experience
Learn Mandarin pinyin, the 5 different tones and 200 Chinese words in order to lay a solid foundation to read, write and speak Mandarin fluently. This course is not an immersion class, a conversational class, a character writing class or even a basic or advanced grammar class. The main focus for this course with me is to help keep learners on track and to provide encouragement, support and crucial feedback for the learner’s Mandarin pronunciation. Learners are required to purchase the Pronunciation Mastery course for a one time fee of $99 from the Mandarin Blueprint website before enrolling. In the video, I do say I'll play the videos in class but since this is a "Flex" course the learners will play them on their own. Included in the Pronunciation Mastery course: ◾ 212 short video lessons (0:20-9 minutes) and traverse.link and google slides audio flashcards. All flashcards have audio clips with two different native Chinese speakers, as well as a few audio google slides for learning the 5 tones. ◾Bonus material and quizzes that learners can watch and do on their own. ◾ I’ll supplement this course with Youtube links to Mandarin songs by Chinese Buddy. The “Pronunciation Mastery” course is simply the onramp for the Mandarin Blueprint course. The Mandarin Blueprint course uses the Hanzi Move Method which is a mnemonic system for learning Mandarin Chinese characters. The Hanzi Movie Method allows you to learn ALL aspects of a character (reading, writing, and pronunciation) simultaneously. Believe me, it’s brilliant work created by Luke Neale and Phil Crimmins. They’ve seriously hacked learning Mandarin and made it fun! I’m currently enrolled in the Mandarin Blueprint course and have written permission to teach/tutor the “Pronunciation Mastery” portion of their course. 🔸10 weeks of course material with 30-40 minutes of short videos per unit. 🔸After each unit is completed, learners will need to make a quick video of them saying each flashcard for that unit so that I can give them feedback on each of those sounds and words before they move on to the next unit. 🔸Super short quizzes are given during the course materials. 🔸Learners can post their videos in the classroom for fun to show off their pronunciation progress. ◾Unit 1 - Introduction to Mandarin Syllables, How to Think About Your Journey ◾Unit 2: Simple Finals A, E & I (YI) ◾Unit 3: Simple Finals O, U (WU) & Ü (YU) ◾Unit 4: Compound & Nasal Finals Related to A ◾Unit 5: Compound & Nasal Finals Related to E & O ◾Unit 6: Compound Finals Related to I (YI) ◾Unit 7: Nasal Finals Related to I (YI) ◾Unit 8: Compound & Nasal Finals Related to U (WU) ◾Unit 9: Compound & Nasal Finals Related to Ü (YU) ◾Unit 10 - What's Next After You Master Your Pronunciation

What started out as a kind of “party trick” soon became a super fun hobby!
For 4 years I was a sought after VIPKid English immersion teacher because I relentlessly taught excellent English pronunciation. I actually hated learning English growing up but I found that I loved teaching the pronunciation part of English.
I simply started learning Mandarin to communicate better with my Chinese students and of course they thought it was absolutely hilarious to hear me botch it all up.
So I thought to myself, “I’m a classically trained pianist, how hard can Mandarin really be to learn?”. So, I started seriously studying Mandarin over 2 years ago, despite my older Chinese students telling me not to, because they said it's way too difficult even for them!
That made me even more determined to show them I could do it! So I started out studying on my own and then eventually enrolled into the incredible Mandarin Blueprint course.
I've completed the "Pronunciation Mastery" course as well as 16 levels in the huge Mandarin Blueprint course. I continue to really enjoy it and study daily.
My degree is in music education, with a proficiency in piano and a secondary in voice, so learning pinyin and the 5 different tones has been easy for me.
The two creators (Luke and Phil) of the Mandarin Blueprint have given me their written permission to teach/tutor the "Pronunciation Mastery" portion of their amazing course to kids, since currently they focus solely on teaching their course to adults.
