Class Experience

This course is designed to help children to practice conversational Malayalam. I am a fluent, native Malayalam speaker. This class will offer a lot of interaction between the student and teacher. Each class will begin with a welcome in Malayalam.

This one on one class will benefit shy speakers, those who want personal attention and work on some specific projects or learning in Malayalam.

Please note that this will be a conversation class. I will not be teaching reading and writing in Malayalam.

Each class is structured in the following way;
We greet each other with 'Namaskaram'
We ask how are you doing to everyone in class? (We take turns to ask each other.)
We discuss about the days' weather.

We begin our class with a round of warm up questions just to brush up the topics we have covered in our classes.
(Since this is an ongoing class each week we have something new to discuss but we always make it a point to revise all that we have learnt.)
We revise counting and saying the name of the days of the week.

If time permits we play the game called, can you guess what's in my hand'? (This helps students to use a lot of adjectives and they try to describe the thing to their friends and all of us try to guess it correctly.)
We wrap up our class by saying 'nanni'.

We will cover different vocabulary including: introductions, greeting, weather, colors, numbers, fruits and animals.

Here are a few of the topics that we would be conversing on.

All About Me
We will learn to greet each other, introduce ourselves, start a conversation and share opinions.

It’s Family Time
We will learn to introduce our family members in Malayalam. Here the children will not only learn the terms for Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Uncle, Aunt etc. in Malayalam but will also be introduced to the pronouns and the changes in the sentences depending upon their gender.

It’s time to Party
While we have lot of fun going to a party, will learn to identify the colors and count in Malayalam.

Let’s go Picnic
While having a fun day at zoo, we learn the names of different animals and also discuss what makes a picnic so much fun.

My Body
We learn to identify various body parts and how do they help us in our daily lives.

Transportation
We learn to identify different modes of transport and how we can zoom around the world in them.

My Emotions
We learn about expressing ourselves when in different moods.

What’s my Hobby?
We talk about different activities that we like to do, what interests us in doing the activity etc.

What’s in our neighborhood?
We learn to talk about our neighborhood, what do we see around? Who are the people who help us in our community etc.

A famous Malayalee
We discuss about musicians, players, chefs, politicians and discuss their contributions and achievements

Your favorite toy
Children get to bring their favorite toy to class and discuss what makes it their favorite toy.

Seasons (Ritu)
We discuss the 4 seasons namely vennalkalam, mazhakalam, sharadkalam and mannukalam.

Domestic Animals
We discuss about 'valarthu mrigangal'.

This class gives a great opportunity to interact and speak about a variety of things around us and that we do and use in our daily lives.
We also take in real life situations like asking somebody to come inside our home and sit down, a telephone conversation etc.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Welcome to my fun-corner. I have been in the teaching profession for over 10 years now and have passionately fallen in love with it every moment. I have been conducting engaging classes for young learners ranging a wide variety of topics including English (Reading, Writing & Speaking), Life Skills, Environmental/Plant Sciences, Geography, Hindi, Malayalam, Yoga and Art.

I firmly believe that, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." and so my classes are always about 3 I's, Interesting, Interactive and Inspiring.

I focus on classes from a large range of topics that are engaging and cater to every student's needs and interests. My experience as a teacher for over a decade has gifted me with a large toolbox of methods and ideas that I can use to help each student feel comfortable, curious and connected to their learning experiences.

I have always believed in hands on activities which are very interactive, engaging and interesting and that is exactly what you will find in all my classes here.

I am a Post-graduate in English Literature. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Education and a diploma in Aviation, hospitality, travel and tourism. I am a trained Montessori teacher and have taught kids from Kindergarten to Grade-12. I am also a Yoga enthusiast and have been practicing for over a decade.

When I am not teaching, either I am scribbling my thoughts on my blog page, curled up in a corner with an amazing book and a cup of coffee, or you would find me exploring places and doing some fun outdoor activity.

I am looking forward to some amazing sessions together. :)
