Watch your learner's confidence SOAR as they strengthen their spelling, reading, and decoding skills!

This is a HANDS-ON, MINDS-ON class. Students are engaged and interactive throughout the entire lesson. When their hands are busy, their minds are on!

Schedule of Class Activities:
πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘πŸΎ 5 minutes: Welcome and Build Community
πŸ”¨15 minutes: Build 10 Words with Letter Tiles and Clues; Record in Notebook
πŸ“ƒ3 minutes: Sort the 10 Words into Rhyming Categories
πŸ‘‰2 minutes: Transfer Spelling Patterns to New Words
πŸ’»10 minutes: Play Kahoot Puzzles to Spell Each Word with Picture and Sentence Clues

The unique approach to spelling and vocabulary instruction in this course helps learners build the essential knowledge for being a fluent and accurate reader and writer. The lessons teach homophones, spelling changes, prefixes, suffixes, complex spelling patterns, new vocabulary and word usage that most third grade curriculums cover. Each Making Words activity contains rhyming words which help learners review the more complex vowel patterns. Learners will use clues to build words using letter tiles (which can be made or printed after enrolling.) Learners will manipulate the words using additional clues. This unique approach allows learners at all levels within 3rd grade to make progress in their spelling, decoding, and vocabulary skills.

This class is successful because:
βœ… The lessons are interactive and engaging. Hands-On = Minds-On = Retention of Skills
βœ… The lessons feel like problem-solving games.
βœ… The activities present a concise method for involving students in the process of identifying homophones, prefixes, and suffixes and how these change the meaning of words.
βœ… The activities promote student awareness of similarities in words that help develop reading and writing skills.
βœ… The unique approach to building and manipulating words allows learners to see complex spelling patterns between similar words.

BUILD:
A sample set of clues and sentences I give verbally while students manipulate their spelling tiles:
Focus on -ear and -are

1. "Use 3 letters to spell her." (I am her sister.)
2. "Use 3 letters to spell ear." (The puppy's ear was flopping.)
3. "Add one letter to spell ears." (We washed the puppy's ears.) *Discuss plural nouns
4. "Use 4 letters to spell each." (I will give each of my friend's a cookie.)
5. "Use 4 letters and spell care." (I care for my sister while my mom is away.)
6. "Add 1 letter and spell scare."
7. "Change 1 letter and spell share." *Discuss -are word family
8. "Use 5 letters and spell hears."
9. "Use 5 letters to spell reach." *Discuss es vowel team
10. "Use all the letters to spell search."

SORT:
We will sort the words we just made into -each, -ears and -are rhyming words groups.

We'll then transfer our learning to complete the following sentences:
*I d____ you to try to do that. (dare)
