Does math sometimes seem like a foreign language? Does your child struggle with math? Does it ever feel like a battle to get him or her to focus? If so, I completely understand. Learning math can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to. That’s where I come in! I’ve been developing systems for almost a decade to fill math gaps in record amounts of time. I’m a huge fan of many math curriculums, but no matter how much we search and compare curriculums, they all have gaps that need to be filled. I have developed this class to do just that. I have targeted and planned an engaging math program that will help your child truly connect with and master math skills relating to decimals, percents, and fractions. Because I review the previous content needed in each class, students can join and leave at any time. Multiplication fact fluency will also be emphasized (naturally through the context of fractions mainly) so that students who need to master their facts will be working toward fact mastery as well. It’s not enough to simply do math, we need to teach children to apply math. I invite you to allow me to help you child learn to love math on a higher level 😊 ***Please note: This class is for older children/pre-teens needing to work on the basics of percents, decimals, and fractions- including how they relate to one another, converting between them, and problem- solving with them. ***Each week's topic will depend on reviewing the needs of the group as noticed in the previous class, combined with the topics listed- please note this is subject to change at my discretion based on the level of mastery and the needs I notice each week since this is an ongoing class. Class topics will be rotated through in this order. Once these topics are covered, we will start again and continue reviewing. My other classes like this have been super successful because students get small nuggets of content while also reviewing in each class. This class will rotate these topics: Topic 1: An introduction to basics with fractions- identifying them, adding and subtracting like and unlike denominators (with visuals to begin and then progressing with the fractions without pictures), along with converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. Topic 2: Decimal place value, their relationship to fractions, and problem-solving with them. Topic 3: Introduction to percents, using them to solve problems, and also converting between percents and decimals. Reviews: These will be a valuable review class to put everything together; it will be full of challenges, fun, and math games! We will challenge ourselves and learn so much together!
Learning Goals
Goals:
• Students will improve their focus and attention to detail in math
• Students will develop a greater appreciation and excitement for math
• Students will become fluent with using decimals, percents, and fractions to add, subtract, and problem-solve. They will also learn to convert between each.
• Students will learn foundational math skills that will lead to increased problem-solving ability and a higher level of generalized math skills which will translate to a better grasp on math topics for years to come
