Are you an artist or a writer? Do you love books and want to learn how to make one of your own? In this one-time class, learners will use two simple book structures to make their own mini-books! Learners need no prior experience. We will discuss basic bookbinding materials and techniques, including how to use a “bone folder” to make a crisp fold, how to make an accordion book using just one sheet of paper, and how to sew together a simple pamphlet book. Learners can then fill these versatile...
Students will learn the basic techniques of bookbinding in order to make 2 book structures: a simple 1-page accordion folded book, and a small 1 signature sewn pamphlet book.
- 6-7 Sheets of Printer or Drawing Paper - Scissors - Ruler - Pencil - Sewing Needle (large hole is preferable) - Thread - Awl or thumbtack Optional: - 1 Sheet of colored paper the same size as printer/drawing paper - Bone Folder or old plastic card (i.e: a giftcard) Please let me know if you have difficulty finding any class supplies, and I will work with you to find appropriate substitutions.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class requires the use of scissors and sewing needles. Please be nearby to assist if necessary.
