Class Experience

The heart is a universal symbol of friendship and love. During this class, we will make some hearts to give or to keep. The hearts will range from a simple folded heart to a more complex pleated heart. Learners will be encouraged to make at least one of each kind but can focus on those they like best.

I will use a document camera so each learner can see how to do the project as well as talk through the instructions.

Students will need to provide their own color paper, scissors, and a pencil. I will provide templates and some coloring sheets with hearts for students who have difficulty using scissors.

The structure of the class is simple. I follow an "I do, we do, you do" approach to learning. I will show the project and talk about how I did it. Then, I will walk through each step and the learner can follow along or move ahead as needed. I will have five sample projects and we will do as many as possible. Learners will also be encouraged to make their own designs to share with the class.

As we work, we will talk about hearts, why people may give them to others, what different heart colors may mean, and who they might like to give their hearts to.

During the class, students will not be muted unless there is significant background noise. Students may use their most effective method for communication, including a verbal response, chat, communication board, or use of an interpreter. I do not know ASL.
Learning Goals
Students will practice following directions and using scissors.
