Class Experience

Make games rather than playing them using your own ideas! Become a game developer and create your own version of the super popular "Among Us" video game in the classroom. When students build games, they become the writers, artists, designers, and creators of their own interactive stories.

It all starts with an idea. We use Bloxels to guide students through a design thinking process to create their own 13-bit layouts, characters, and art for their game.

Agenda:

👾 Create your own character and art work
🎮 Turn your creations into digital game elements
⚙️ Edit and customize everything from characters to settings
🤼‍♀️ Develop interactions and behaviour between characters
🎞️ Tell rich, dynamic narratives through your games
▶️ Publish them so others can play them too

What you need:

Students will need a strong internet connection (at least 8 mbps - please check your speed here: https://fast.com)

Students will need ONE of the following:

- A tablet with Bloxels app installed (download from App Store), OR
- A computer with the Bloxels downloaded and installed (download here: http://www.bloxelsbuilder.com/download), or
- A computer with web browser (go to this site: https://build.bloxels.co)

It is highly recommended that students have the app/webpage open prior to joining the class. You do not need to create an account. The instructor will provide login details to the Code Kids student paid accounts so the class can work collaboratively.
Learning Goals
Student will gain an understanding of the design thinking process. They will learn how to create, test and edit their creations.
