In this course, students will do detective work to crack the case on what the main idea of a story is! To find out the mystery of the stories main idea students will be prompted to search for the supporting & key details to crack the case.

-Students will be assigned to homework in which they will write a short paragraph in which they will read to the class in order for the students to uncover the main idea of the paragraph. Students will write individually, but uncover the mystery of the text and be detectives as a group. -Homework should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.Assessment
A written report will be provided to the parents upon completion of the course in order to inform parents of the progress made by their child.Class Experience

In this course, we will review and understand the main idea, supporting and key details, and the author's purpose. We will go over how to look through various genre texts in order to find their main purpose provided on the screen and by listing in their detective notebook the clues they found in the text to uncover the main idea. We will review a different genre text each class in order to provide the students with a vast knowledge and enhanced skills in cracking the case of any genre text. My teaching style is fun, engaging, and interactive. I believe children learn and obtain information better when they are engaged and given a fun and unique opportunity to learn. I strongly believe in encouraging students and giving them positive reinforcement. Students will get to interact through group discussion and collaboration, through our fun detective games, and by giving their input on the genre text.
