Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Meet Jack and Annie and see where all the magical tree house adventures begin!

In this one-time interactive class, students will hear a few passages read to them from the very first book of the series, “Dinosaurs Before Dark”, while they practice listening skills and for those who could read, Ms. Stephenie will allow them to take-turns reading aloud short paragraphs.

It’s highly recommended that students have access to a physical copy of this book or can access it before and after class (online) to enhance the learning experience.

Whether learners already heard/read or never heard/read this book before, all learners are welcome.

We will be going over discussion and reading comprehension questions after each chapter and the goal is to understand the entire book’s content by the end of the week.

Students will go over character traits, plot, setting, conflict, and more with fun interactive games.

Nearpod may or may not be used in the class (depending on student age). If used, the code will be provided 60 minutes prior to the start of class so that students can interact with the lesson in a fun way!

Day 1 will cover chapters 1-3, students will read chapter 4-5, while Day 2 will cover chapters 6-8, and Day 3 will cover chapters 9-10 and review the entire book.

An optional mini-book report activity will be included at the end of the week.

This Magic Tree House series is an amazing chapter book series that many children enjoy. These “page-turners” have many educational topics, themes and facts that are great for discussion. A child can also start reading from any book in the series, as there are prologues that summarize the previous key events in each book.

4 or 8 week FLEX courses will be available soon and this one-time class is a great sample of what is offered in the courses.
Learning Goals
Students will work on listening and power reading skills. They will review characterization, summarizing, sequencing, vocabulary, story elements, reading comprehension skills and more. Students will also develop a love for reading as they enjoy these awesome books!

Bachelor's Degree from Columbia University
Hello!

My name is Ms. Stephenie. I have been teaching various subjects for over 28 years. Although I had a few major career changes, the one thing that never changed was my passion for teaching anyone who wants to learn.

While I have a Biomedical Engineering degree from Columbia University, my students also come to me to learn non-STEM subjects, test taking strategies, music and more.

I have taught basic introduction to advanced levels in various subjects, such as math (Singapore Math, Algebra, Pre-Calc, and etc.), sciences (biology, earth science, chemistry, physics), medical/dental subjects, STEAM/STEM topics, language arts, history, languages (Mandarin Chinese, ESL), test prep (SAT, SSAT, SHSAT, ACT, AP, MCAT, DAT, COGAT/OLSAT, NYS Regents, and etc.), robotics/coding, interviewing skills (former interviewer), public speaking, and music (former competitive piano and violin player) 🎶 . I teach music theory to beginner students of all ages in fun interactive ways and have helped them with their music auditions.

As an Educational Consultant, private admissions consultant, teacher, tutor, a stay-at-home mother, PTO mom, baseball/softball and field hockey Coach, Robotics Coach and Girl Scout Troop Leader, I am passionate in guiding students to try new things, be successful in what they do and to help them accomplish their personal goals, whether it is to learn how to play tennis, or to bake cookies made from scratch, to scoring high on their college admissions exams. I enjoy what I do and always find teaching to be the best part of my day. I also love teaching my own two kids, so I understand what kind of classes kids will enjoy and learn from.

With the current technology and virtual platform, my students come from all over the world. And I also enjoy learning from my students, as not one student is alike and can teach me so much about their culture, interests and experience. There’s always so much to learn from each other. And I strongly encourage the love of learning. So let’s begin this journey together!

I am happy to try to accommodate your busy schedules, so please feel free to reach out if there is a class of interest you would like to attend, and we can work out a schedule together!

I can’t wait to see you in my classrooms!
