US Grade 1 - 3
Read with us as the Magic Tree House whisks Jack and his sister away to the vast plains of Africa! In each class, we will be reading and discussing the story "Lions at Lunchtime." There will be a short video presentation (5-10 minutes) on our chapters of the day and our activity. There will be comprehension homework after each video. If you have the book, feel free to read along with me! This virtual flex class provides a great opportunity for students to continue to practice reading out loud and discussing a book in a small virtual discussion group. It also gives them a chance to practice reading a chapter book and practice reading fluency. At the end of the book, students will create a poster or similar project to share what they have learned and enjoyed about the book. We'll create a fun illustration each week to show what the chapter was about. Students will complete the worksheet I send out and use it to write/draw. Students will interact with the class through the discussion posts/videos on what we learned each week. We'll also have submission threads for students to submit their work and give each other great feedback on our illustration of the week. *Students will share their illustrations on the submission thread on the classroom page. You can do this by creating the picture on the computer or taking a picture and sharing the file. Week 1: Chapters 1 and 2- Students will complete journal page 2. Next, they will choose a word to describe Jack or Annie. Why did you choose this word? Draw a picture of Jack or Annie. Week 2: Chapters 3 and - Students will complete journal page 4. Next, they will write/draw what you think Jack learned about zebras. What do you know about zebras? In addition, students will complete the cut/paste activity to match the vocabulary words and definitions that we have learned in chapters 1-3. Students will shar their finished product on the classroom page via video, quizlet, or image. Week 3: Chapters 5 and 6- Students will complete journal page 6. Next, they will complete an Action//motivation chart...what did Jack/Annie do? Why did they do it? In addition, students will complete the cut/paste activity to match the vocabulary words and definitions that we have learned in chapters 4-6. Students will shar their finished product on the classroom page via video, quizlet, or image. Week 4: Chapters 7 and 8- Students will complete journal page 8. Next they will write: All about the warrior! What did he do? How does he look? What words describe him? Illustrate him. Week 5: Chapters 9 and 10- Students will complete journal page 10. If you were the author of this book, what would you change? In addition, students will complete the cut/paste activity to match the vocabulary words and definitions that we have learned in chapters 7-10. Students will share their finished product on the classroom page via video, quizlet, or image. Week 6: Share book projects on our classroom page via video or image. New lessons will be uploaded on Tuesday of each week. I will expect all participants to be active in our discussions on the "classroom" page. I will facilitate and extend conversations and provide regular, consistent posts in the classroom. I will send feedback on journal entries and assignments. Parents will purchase the book so that the students can read along with me.
