Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 3
Read with us as the Magic Tree House whisks Jack and his sister away to the vast plains of Africa!

In each class, we will be reading and discussing the story "Lions at Lunchtime." We will review vocabulary words and complete an activity in class, and there will be comprehension homework after each class. We will read the chapters together in class. Before each class, I will ask for volunteers to read and I will write those names down. Every single student who wants to read will have a chance to read out loud. I will not call on children who are not comfortable reading, but I will encourage the students to have their name on my read-a-loud list. If there are no students who feel comfortable reading, I will read the chapter. This class provides a good opportunity for students to continue to practice reading out loud and discussing a book in a small group. It also gives them a chance to practice reading a chapter book and practice reading fluency. At the end of the book, students will create a poster or similar project to share what they have learned and enjoyed.

5 minutes- go over homework
10 minutes- Read-a-loud, discussion
5 minutes- comprehension activity, introduce homework

Day 2: Chapters 3 and 4
Day 3: Chapters 5 and 6
Day 4: Chapters 7 and 8
Day 5: Chapters 9 and 10
Day 6: Share book projects

In order to keep the class interactive, I would like the students to share the completed homework on the "classroom discussion" page.
