Prepare for 6th grade math by exploring the four main topics of 6th grade math. 6th Grade Math builds on existing knowledge learned in elementary to develop a deeper understanding of the following skills: ratios/proportions, multiplication/division of fractions, using variables and writing equations, and integers. Each week will focus on one skill. Students will explore the skill using hands on, and inquiry based activities. Week One: Integers Exploring positive and negative numbers using a variety of number line activities. Week Two: Multiplication and Division Relationships Explore the multiplication and division relationship involving fractions with the use of bar models. Week Three: Ratios Explore ratios and equivalent ratios to develop understanding of proportional thinking. Week Four: Variables Understanding and working with Variables

Teacher expertise and credentials
Missouri Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Mathematics from Drury University
I am a non traditional teacher, no lectures here!
Instead my classes focus on being:
*Student Centered- they lead the pace
*Critical Thinking -complex tasks are given that may be a bit unusual but will cause students to think deeply
*Problem Solving- word problems to keep concepts in context
*Focus on discovering patterns- patterns is the basis of the study of algebra and higher levels of math thinking
*Students create their understanding versus being told what to think
I am constantly learning how to become a better math teacher! I have a Master's degree in Math Education but I don't believe that means I know everything. In fact I am constantly reading about the brain, and the best ways to teach math. I also am constantly evaluating my classes and content and making changes based on how learners interact with the material.
I have 13 years of experience in Education, and have taught math at all levels including adults.

In my down time, I love hanging with my husband, and two girls. We love to read books, play games and do math together (of course:)
