Beginner Level
Through the guided drawing process, students will learn how to use simple lines and shapes to create kawaii animals. We will explore the origin of Kawaii style, and discuss ways to adapt it to a variety of animals. This easy class is intended to give students practice drawing Kawaii (Japanese for "cuteness") style, with the added twist and challenge of being alphabetized. Week 1Lesson 1Intro to Kawaii Style; Animals A-FIntroduction to Kawaii Style; shapes of heads, bodies, and types of eyes, Students will draw animals with names that start with A-F. Students may need to color their animals on their own time, and are encouraged to select and draw at least one other animal with a name in that letter range if possible.Week 2Lesson 2Animals G-KStudents will draw animals with names that start with G-K. Students may need to color their animals on their own time, and are encouraged to select and draw at least one other animal with a name in that letter range if possible.Week 3Lesson 3Animals L-PStudents will draw animals with names that start with L-P. Students may need to color their animals on their own time, and are encouraged to select and draw at least one other animal with a name in that letter range if possible.Week 4Lesson 4Animals Q-UStudents will draw animals with names that start with Q-U. As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
Homework Offered
Possible homework might include finishing/coloring animals not completed during class and/or researching and drawing another animal with name starting in the same letter range as studied in each day's class (optional).0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
