Welcome writers! Wherever you are in learning to write, you are welcome here. We will try to find the fun in expressing (and sharing) your thoughts and ideas through many different kinds of writing.

In each class I will introduce the type of writing. We will explore each type of writing for 2 weeks so you can build some skill. I will write for you to show you the writing process, and/or we will write together as a class, depending on the writing type and learners' needs. You will use the planner that has been modeled to plan and write your own piece -with help just an ask away! I will check in with each writer as well. As time allows, all learners will have an opportunity to share their work and ask for feedback at the end of class. We will emphasize positive & "I" statements for feedback. If time is short, students can also post their work in the classroom for feedback.

Writers who attend two consecutive weeks with the same type of writing may choose to continue working on their piece from the first class during writing time. There is flexibility for learners to make progress in their personal writing goals within the class structure.

Each week will offer a new idea for writing so learners can join at any time, but It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED they join on a week when we begin a type of writing.

Learning Goals

Goals will depend on learner attendance given the ongoing class format.
Students will:
1.  learn about different types of, and purposes for writing;
2. develop specific writing skills over time such as
      *strong beginnings and endings
      *adding detail
      *sentence fluency
      *word choice
      *organization.
3.  increase their ability to think creatively & find stories;
4. learn that revising and editing is part of the writing process- there is not much time for learners to revise or edit in this class as it is currently listed (45 min.) but learners are welcome to work on this class 2 of a topic, or use the classroom as a resource for feedback on revisions, edits.
