What's included
Homework
1 hour per week. Learners are encouraged to help to clean up their baking space after class.Class Experience
A four week, flexible schedule, baking course inspired inspired by galaxies far, far away. From planet pulverizing pizzas to droid cookies, we'll cook tasty recipes that would impress any space fighter or alien. This is Recipe Set 1 of a series of Little Bakers: Recipes From a Galaxy Far Away classes, the sets can be completed in any order. This is a flexible schedule class, there are no live lessons. Students can complete the lessons in their own time over each week. If learners enrol late, they will still have full access to the classroom and can therefore catch up. Learners will be provided each week with: * 1 week before - An ingredient and kitchen equipment list * Monday - A recipe card * Monday - Video that breaks the recipe down step by step * Wednesday - Weekly quiz or activity * Friday - Recipe evaluation prompts * Ongoing - The opportunity to message the teacher if they require any extra assistance (please allow 24 hours for a response as the course is flexibly scheduled) Flexible classes have interaction built in. The learners and the teacher can correspond using the Outschool classroom and will: * Post photos of their finished creations * Taste test their food and comment by text or video * Comment on the photos, posts and videos of others * Take part in activities * Ask and answer questions Week 1 - Droid Cookies (recipe) and Introduce Yourself (activity) Week 2 - Planet Pulverizing Pizza (recipe) and My Ideal Pizza (activity) Week 3 - Hairy Co-pilot Brownie Cupcakes (recipe) and Design a Cupcake (activity) Week 4 - Character Pretzels (recipe) and Spot the Difference Challenge (activity) Class video, recipe and discussion points will be posted each Monday by 12pm UK time (GMT/BST). (If you enroll late as the only learner, then please allow 24 hours after enrollment for the first activities to be uploaded.) These recipes are adapted from my Junior Bakers and Teen Bakers Recipes From a Galaxy Far Away Classes, which feature many of the same finished products, but are longer classes and feature more baking from scratch. In order for the recipes to be achievable for my Little Bakers, there will be more use of prepared mixes and ingredients than I usually include in my cooking classes. For example, we may use packaged frosting (instead of making it from scratch) or decorate shop bought cupcakes (rather than cooking these from scratch during the class).
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to follow recipes step-by-step.
Learners will be able to cook four out-of-this-world dishes.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
When you enrol in this class, you accept full responsibility for your learner's safety. It is essential that a responsible adult is in the same room as the learner and ready to step in to help if necessary.
Although I will discuss using equipment safely in the class videos, please ensure your learner is familiar with your own kitchen equipment (how to turn it on, turn it off, increase or decrease the temperature, or speed up or slow mixing). Learners will be using knives to chop, mixers to stir or whisk, the microwave (or stovetop) to melt or cook ingredients, as well as the oven (adult supervision will be needed when using hot equipment).
Please ensure your learner is wearing short sleeves, or close fitting long sleeves that will not get caught on equipment, has long hair tied back and I recommend wearing an apron or clothes that can be washed easily.
Please ensure you check all your ingredients for possible allergens.
