Welcome to "Literary Explorations," a stimulating journey tailored for 6th-grade students on Outschool. Over the course of ten weeks with classes held twice a week, we'll embark on an adventure into language arts and the world of captivating literature. Class Resources: Curated literary selections from diverse genres Grammar resources and exercises Writing prompts and assignments Reading comprehension strategies and exercises Interactive discussions and engaging activities Book Study Selections (to be read during class time): "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson Week 1-2: Introduction to Literature and Reading Strategies Exploring literary genres and their elements Implementing effective reading strategies for comprehension Week 3-4: Grammar Mastery and Writing Techniques Reviewing grammar essentials for effective writing Introduction to narrative and descriptive writing techniques Week 5-6: Literary Analysis and Critical Thinking Analyzing "The Outsiders" to identify themes and literary devices Cultivating critical thinking skills through discussions and essays Week 7-8: Writing Skills and Composition Development Crafting well-structured paragraphs and essays Emphasizing coherence, unity, and proper essay structure Week 9-10: Culminating Projects, Book Discussions, and "Bridge to Terabithia" Study Applying learned skills in a final writing project Engaging in discussions and analysis of "Bridge to Terabithia" Throughout the course, students will actively participate in discussions, collaborative activities, and receive individualized feedback on their writing.
