Welcome to Miss Lisa's TUTORING class! I believe that all students have the potential to learn! As a teacher, my job is to identify the next best thing for your child to take on and grow his skills from there. I am open to tutoring via methods I have been trained in or as a 'homework helper' - helping your student with a curriculum that is currently challenging him. I have years of experience working with a wide variety of autistic students, ADHD/ADD students, as well as students with a variety of other learning disabilities. My goal is to understand your child's unique way of learning and help him achieve the educational task in front of him. With over 30 years of experience in education as well as private 1-on-1 tutoring, I offer a myriad of ways to help your learner. More specifically, I have taught and tutored in: >> English Language Arts preK-12, and >> remedial reading and writing, preK-12. Although the above areas are my strengths, I am willing to tailor the lessons to your child's needs to the best of my ability. To help me know your child's needs and to help you know if my style is a good fit for you, I recommend that you sign up for a minimum of three sessions. After that, it might be easier to decide if you would like to continue. *Lesson #1 is a 'get to know you' lesson as well as an informal assessment, preparing for quality, individualized lessons ahead. *Lesson #2 - is the completion of any assessments, a 'get set up' lesson as well as the beginning of our individualized tutoring. *Lesson #3 and beyond - will be tailored to your child's specific need as was identified in Lessons #1 & 2. *In our lessons will work on phonics, the BIG 5 Reading Strategies (comprehension, fluency, accuracy, self-correction, and reading rate), and writing skills. Parent communication is a valuable piece of information in my teaching. You know YOUR child and the learning journey he has been on thus far. Details from that can be pivotal in my assessments. So, I prefer that you, as parents or guardians, keep me apprised of what your hopes are for each lesson as I meld that with what I learn about your child via formal and informal routine assessments. As you prefer, homework is assigned per your request (I may recommend homework... but the decision is yours). My teaching style is warm, welcoming, and fun! My ultimate hope is to help build your student’s confidence in how to successfully approach any learning challenge as well as discover how to conquer it, caring for your child's ups and downs along the way. Looking forward to working with your family! :) Miss Lisa
