Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
An Early years professional teacher will guide your learners to build their confidence with their reading, writing and comprehension skills in these guided reading and writing classes.

Weekly class structure:
Every week we will have one class for guided reading and comprehension questions and the second class will have a writing focus. We will be writing sentences based on the story we have heard.

Class one will be a guided reading and comprehension lesson

Class two will be a guided writing lesson where we will be practising our sentence structure and writing sentences about the story we have read in the previous class.

We will have pictures from the story and we will talk about what happened before writing sentences to match the pictures. The teacher will model the words and demonstrate sounding out as we write the words.

** Learners will need to bring along paper and a pencil to follow along at home.

Reading:
Please note this class is a mix of modelled reading and individual reading wherever learners feel comfortable to have a go at reading words in a shared book. The teacher will invite your child to take turns and have a go at reading lines from a shared book as we read a story together on screen.

** The teacher will ensure all children have a chance to read however if your child would prefer to just listen and follow along this is fine so please don’t worry.

Reading Comprehension:
As we work through a story the teacher will ask children questions to help them to develop a deeper understanding of what they have read. The teacher will ask children what is happening, what they think may happen next, how characters may be feeling etc.

Children can join at any point through the weeks as each week we will be sharing a new story together.

Level of reading:
** Please note this class is suitable for developing readers, children who are already able to blend to read simple words. The teacher will always offer support and modelling with any words learners find difficult.

** we will be reading Oxford reading books starting on book band yellow.

The teacher will ask learners questions about what we have read as we go through.

Writing:
In the second class of the week the teacher will show some pictures from the book we read in the previous class. The teacher will remind children of the story and we will practise some sentences together. Learners will need to bring a pencil and paper and the teacher will model writing sentences about different parts of the story which children can follow along with writing at home.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! My name is Catherine and I am an experienced primary school teacher from the UK. I have a BA Honours degree in Structured Textiles and a PGCE degree in Primary Education. For the last 7 years I have been a certified teacher of early years education.

I currently teach part time in a primary school. During the rest of the week I teach here on Outschool.

I am up to date with the current curriculum requirements and I have extensive experience of teaching synthetic phonics, mathematics and mindfulness lessons using a scheme called Mind Up in my Primary School.

I absolutely love teaching on this platform and having the opportunity to meet young learners from all over the world. It is my passion to provide fun and engaging learning opportunities whilst helping children to grow in confidence and believe in themselves.

I offer a caring and welcoming learning environment where I help children to feel happy and safe. I am a motivated, enthusiastic and loving teacher who will help your child to grow in confidence whilst having fun learning new things.

My specialism is teaching literacy through synthetic phonics and I am excited to offer a variety of fun phonics lessons in which children can become secure in recognising letters and their sounds. Children will use multi sensory approaches to learn phonics through exciting games and learning activities.

I love spending time outdoors and visiting new places with my family. I am a Mum to a toddler who is turning 3 this year. She loves exploring the world around her and it is beautiful to see her excitement as she is learning about her world.

I am so excited to meet your little ones! Please take a look at the range of classes I offer. I offer both group and individual classes and I am flexible to schedule requests. I look forward to hearing from you soon and meeting your little one. 🥰
