Research has shown the strong connection between listening and reading. Often, the stronger that a child's listening comprehension skills are, the more that their reading skills grow. At the same time, when it comes to learning, one of the most important things that children can practice is the ability to listen to understand. In this class, kiddos will work to develop all of those skills, and more, as they listen to selections from classic children's literature. We will use these passages as springboards for conversation about the material, as opportunities to answer questions about what they heard, and as ways to develop their memory and ability to recall information. We will even take time to practice our handwriting, as well as grammar! Some of the selections that we will be reading over the next few weeks will come from the following books: • Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder • The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi • Rumpelstilzkin from The Blue Fairy Book by Andrew Lang • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
