In this one-time course, students will be introduced to the physics of light. We will start by considering the basic observable properties of light, such as brightness and color, and connecting those properties to the underlying wave nature of light. After that, we will discuss how light behaves, including reflection, refraction, and diffraction. At the end, we will look at how visible light is only one part of the larger electromagnetic spectrum that includes radio waves, microwaves, x-rays, and more. To aid in our study, we will use a set of images and simulations, which are linked in the course resources below. This class is designed to be highly interactive, and I expect all students to participate.
