Description
Class Experience
In this one-time course, students will be introduced to the physics of light. We will start by considering the basic observable properties of light, such as brightness and color, and connecting those properties to the underlying wave nature of light. After that, we will discuss how light behaves, including reflection, refraction, and diffraction. At the end, we will look at how visible light is only one part of the larger electromagnetic spectrum that includes radio waves, microwaves, x-rays,...
Students will develop a deeper understanding of the physics of light and the electromagnetic spectrum.
I am a physics educator with over 20 years of experience. I especially like getting kids excited about science, and I see the study of light as a great way to do that.
Simulations and images will be provided by the instructor. To give a better idea of the content of the class, some of the simulations are linked above.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will give written feedback based on student interest and participation.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
