In this semester course, learners will learn basic sewing and cooking skills, design their dream room

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Lesson 1: Introduction to Kitchen Safety and Basic Cooking Techniques
Understand essential kitchen safety practices and rules. Learn basic cooking techniques, such as chopping, sautéing, and boiling. We will be making fruit salsa with cinnamon chips and vegetable dip.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Lesson 2: Food Safety and Sanitation
Students will understand the importance of food safety and sanitation. We will cover the basics of Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill, proper hand-washing techniques and proper cooking temperatures for protein.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Lesson 3: Healthy Eating
Students will learn about MyPlate and what a healthy diet looks like for them.
 Week 4

Lesson 4: Breakfast Foods
Students will learn to make easy breakfast foods.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Lesson 5: Reading Food Labels
Students will learn how to read food labels and why it is important to do so.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Lesson 6: Lunch Ideas and Soups
Students will learn easy, healthy lunch ideas and will make two soup recipes.

Lesson 7: Dinner Ideas
Students will learn to stir fry and make a tuna casserole and pasta Alfredo.
 Week 8

Lesson 8: Sewing
Students will learn parts of a sewing machine and how to thread the machine. Students will practice making stitches on paper designs. I will upload examples of both ways: using a sewing machine and sewing by hand.
 Week 9

Lesson 9: Tote Bag Project
Students will use the sewing skills they just learned to sew a simple tote bag.
 Week 10

Lesson 10: Patchwork Pillow Project
Students will learn to sew a 9 square patchwork pillow.

Lesson 11: Interior Design - Elements of Design Color
Students will learn the elements of design (color and color scheme) and how they relate to interior design.

Lesson 12: Elements of Design Texture, Line, Shape and Space
Students will learn the basic elements of design including texture, line, shape, and space, and how they relate to interior design.
 Week 13

Lesson 13: Principles of Design
Students will learn basic principles of design and how they relate to interior design.

Lesson 15: Architectural Drawing
Students will learn how to draw thier dream room to scale on graph paper.

Lesson 15: Final Project
Students will put all that they have learned together to create their dream room.

Lesson 16: Baking Basics-Gingerbread Cookies and Pepermint Bark
Students will learn to make gingerbread cookies and pepermint bark.

Students will learn to make drop cookies.

Lesson 18: Frosted Scotch Bars
Students will learn to make bar cookies.
  • In this dynamic and engaging class, learners will embark on a transformative journey of skill-building and personal growth. Throughout the semester, they will acquire essential sewing and cooking skills, design their dream room, and develop the wisdom to make informed consumer choices. Learning Goals: Basic Sewing Skills: Students will learn the fundamentals of sewing, including threading a sewing machine, creating seams, and mastering essential stitches to complete sewing projects. Cooking Essentials: From measuring ingredients to mastering basic cooking techniques, students will gain confidence in the kitchen and learn to prepare delicious and nutritious meals. Design Your Dream Room: Discover the principles of interior design and unleash creativity to design a personalized dream room that reflects their unique style and taste. Throughout the course, students will participate in hands-on projects, engaging activities. They will receive personalized guidance and feedback to nurture their skills and enhance their understanding. As they learn to sew, cook, and design, they will also develop valuable life skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Homework Offered
Throughout the course, engaging and personalized projects will be assigned that will allow students to apply their knowledge in creative ways, catering to their individual learning styles. The 45-minute limit on lesson videos ensures that students can stay focused and absorb the information without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, dedicating 1-2 hours per week for the projects allows students to delve deeper into the topics, apply their learning, and personalize their work to showcase their understanding and creativity.

Assessments Offered
By showcasing their understanding through diverse mediums, students can develop critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills while deepening their comprehension.

A supply list will be provided at the beginning of the course. Additionally. I will upload a project supply list on Friday for the following week's lessons.
