Homework
1-2 hours per week. Throughout the course, engaging and personalized projects will be assigned that will allow students to apply their knowledge in creative ways, catering to their individual learning styles. The 45-minute limit on lesson videos ensures that students can stay focused and absorb the information without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, dedicating 1-2 hours per week for the projects allows students to delve deeper into the topics, apply their learning, and personalize their work to showcase their understanding and creativity.
Assessment
By showcasing their understanding through diverse mediums, students can develop critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills while deepening their comprehension.
Grading
I am happy to provide semester grades as needed.

Class Experience

Get ready to unlock your creativity and develop valuable life skills in this course! Throughout the course, students will participate in hands-on projects, engaging activities. They will receive personalized guidance and feedback to nurture their skills and enhance their understanding.

As they learn to sew, cook, and design, they will also develop valuable life skills that extend beyond the classroom.


Week 1: Introduction to Kitchen Safety and Basic Cooking Techniques
Understand essential kitchen safety practices and rules.
Learn basic cooking techniques, such as chopping, sautéing, and boiling.

Week 2: Food Safety and Foodborne Illness
Research a foodborne illness and create a most-wanted poster or a public service announcement.

Week 3: Nutrition
Learn about your own personal nutritional needs and create a MyPlate project. 

Week 4: Cooking with Confidence: Breakfast Delights
Master the art of preparing delicious and nutritious breakfast dishes.
Breakfast recipes will include foods like Pancakes, Parfaits, Smoothies, and monkey bread.
Week 5: Reading Food Labels
Students will learn how to read food labels and why it is important to do so. 

Week 6: Cooking with Confidence: Quick and Easy Lunches
Learn to whip up satisfying and speedy lunch recipes.

Week 7: Cooking with Confidence: Flavorsome Dinners
Explore the art of creating flavorful and balanced dinner recipes.

Week 8: Sewing Fundamentals: Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine
Gain confidence with a sewing machine and learn how to thread and operate it.
Students will also practice essential hand stitches for sewing projects.

Week 9: Sewing Creations: Sewing a Simple Tote Bag
Create a personalized and stylish tote bag using sewing skills.

Week 10: Sewing Creations: Design Your Own Pillow
Showcase your creativity by designing and sewing a custom pillow.

Week 11: Interior Design Basics: 
Students will learn the elements of design (color and color scheme) and how they relate to interior design

Week 12: Elements of Design Texture, Line, Shape and Space

Week 13: Interior Design: Principles of Design
Students will learn basic principles of design and how they relate to interior design.

Week 14: Interior Design: Architectural Drawing
Students will learn how to draw thier dream room to scale on graph paper.

Week 15: Final Project
Students will put all that they have learned together to create their dream room.

Week 16: Culinary Delights: Sweet Treats
Gingerbread Cookies and Peppermint Bark

Week 17: Culinary Delights: Sweet Treats 
Drop cookies and rolled cookies

Week 18: Culinary Delights: Sweet Treats 
Frosted Scotch Bars: Bar Cookies

Students are encouraged to complete the weekly projects and upload their work to the classroom for feedback. 

As with all self-paced classes, students may participate as much or as little as they feel comfortable. I will be available throughout the week and will always answer questions within 24 hours.

Cooking Essentials: From measuring ingredients to mastering basic cooking techniques, students will gain confidence in the kitchen and learn to prepare delicious and nutritious meals.

Design Your Dream Room: Discover the principles of interior design and unleash creativity to design a personalized dream room that reflects their unique style and taste.

Throughout the course, students will participate in hands-on projects, engaging activities. They will receive personalized guidance and feedback to nurture their skills and enhance their understanding.

As they learn to sew, cook, and design, they will also develop valuable life skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Lesson 1:
Lesson 1: Introduction to Kitchen Safety and Basic Cooking Techniques
 Understand essential kitchen safety practices and rules.
Learn basic cooking techniques, such as chopping, sautéing, and boiling. We will be making fruit salsa with cinnamon chips and vegetable dip. 
Lesson 2:
Lesson 2: Food Safety and Sanitation
 Students will understand the importance of food safety and sanitation. We will cover the basics of Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill, proper hand-washing techniques and proper cooking temperatures for protein. 
Lesson 3:
Lesson 3: Healthy Eating
 Students will learn about MyPlate and what a healthy diet looks like for them. 
Lesson 4:
Lesson 4: Breakfast Foods
 Students will learn to make easy breakfast foods.

A supply list will be provided at the beginning of the course. Additionally. I will upload a project supply list on Friday for the following week's lessons.
