Communication skills aid learners in all areas of life. Effective communication skills can help learners: express themselves, learn more from conversations with others, aids in confidence, helps to develop critical thinking skills, helps to build stronger relationships, aid in academic success and so much more. This lesson is presented through a PowerPoint that includes information as well as activities we will complete together. Throughout the lesson, I will check learners' understanding of words and concepts and encourage questions and discussion. Activities include brainstorming, discussion, an observation activity, and roleplay. The class is structured in a way that requires students to contribute, discuss and ask questions. While I do call on students, it will be no pressure, and a lot of prompts given when needed. Students will learn about: -Listening skills -Open + closed questions -Body language, tone + voice volume -Choosing the right words (asking for help, learning to say no, disagreeing with someone, expressing ideas, expressing feelings) -Negotiation skills -Digital communication * Please note, depending on the depth of discussions, this class may run a little late, or I may eliminate or shorten some activities. (Should this happen, I will mark the official class end time for those students who are on a timetable and need to leave) * A PDF will be posted in the classroom after class has ended for students to refer to or review any of the topics covered.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Auckland University of Technology
'Meraki' (a term used by the Greeks) is when you do something with your soul, creativity, and love. It is my mission to act with Meraki daily and to encourage learners to do the same.
Hi, my name is Olivia, but you can call me Teacher Liv, or Liv. I am passionate about teaching holistically so that students develop socially, emotionally, and academically. I believe that it is easy for students to get drawn into the magic of fairy tales or make-believe but it takes a little more effort to introduce them to the magic in the world around them. And there is so much magic in the world around us!
In my classroom, we will venture into the depths of English, learning how to go from 'story writing' to adventure telling. We will observe nature and discover the secrets behind the eyes of elephants. We will communicate complex messages and feelings without saying any words at all.
(My favourite teaching areas include: English, Science, and Visual Arts).
In my lessons, students will be encouraged to be curious, to laugh, to lead the way, to be proud of themselves and their learning, and to learn at their own pace. Most importantly, to discover the 'magic' hidden in plain sight in the world around us.
I have been an educator for the past 9 years, teaching and learning from children aged 10 months to 12 years old. I have my Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Montessori Education and in 2022 I gained my TESOL diploma.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, being out in nature, traveling, photography, and arts and crafts. So far I have lived in South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada. I love exploring new places and learning about other cultures, languages, and traditions.
