Description
Class Experience
I am happy to announce this 10-class Pre-Algebra course*, which will allow students to either be introduced or stay in practice with the concepts needed to build up their algebraic foundation. To make maximum use of our time, instruction will be delivered synchronously via power point demonstrations, and asynchronously using self-created instructional videos, and providing materials such as notes and games/activities to further engage, motivate and support learners! I will be able to assess...
In this course, students will: -develop problem solving skills in order to solver real-world problems -develop number sense with integers and rational numbers -expand their knowledge of exponents and square roots to simplify expressions -use inverse operations to solve one-step, two-step, and multi-step equations and inequalities -use the Least Common Multiple to add rational numbers and solve equations involving rational numbers -use proportions to find the percent of a number -use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the missing sides of a right triangles -combine like terms in order to perform operations with polynomials
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5 years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool. My love and dedication for Pre-Algebra stems from the knowledge that this is such a critical time for students to make the connections of elementary-level mathematics to higher-level thinking that will be key for success in courses such as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry or Pre-Calculus (just to name a few).
No homework will be assigned, however, students will be encouraged to practice and review the video for the lesson as needed. Extra supports and challenge material can be uploaded to the classroom as needed.
Students should have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes each week. A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, however, when possible, I will suggest websites that may have the tools that a learner may need (example: online calculators).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Feedback will be provided while students are completing examples in class with me. Parents are also welcome to contact me via Outschool messages with any specific questions about performance.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
