Class Experience

Drawing people can be one of the most challenging and fun art activities to do. It can be frustrating to try your best to draw a person and it doesn't turn out quite how you want. We see people all the time and know what they look like, but that isn't enough to be able to draw a person accurately. This class is designed to help you improve your own people drawing skills by better understanding what a person looks like and effectively applying that understanding to your drawing.

This class is best suited for artists who have some previous drawing experience.

Be sure to have art supplies (paper, pencil, eraser) ready for these interactive lessons.

In this ongoing class, we will start by observing our weekly reference photo and visually break down the figure into main points and shapes. Together, we will draw guidelines to effectively draw correct proportions and placements of key structures of a human figure. Once these key structures are in the correct places, it is easier to connect them with the supporting features of the torso, arms, and legs. Then we'll add details such as facial features, clothing, and shading.

Throughout every class, I will be on camera and will also be displaying a secondary camera for art demonstration and viewing example artwork. I will be using a dark drawing tool (pen, marker, or charcoal) because it shows up the best on camera. Students can use any material but I recommend a pencil that is easy to erase. I also recommend several sheets of paper that can be drawing paper or printer paper.

Each meeting can be a stand-alone class. You can subscribe and unsubscribe as needed to fit your schedule, no worry of falling behind if you miss weeks.

Wk of Jan 8: Action pose - Snowboarder
Wk of Jan 15: Standing position - Student with backpack
Wk of Jan 22: Side view- Woman walking
Wk of Jan 29: Sitting position - Girl playing guitar

These classes do not build on each other. The themes (overall category of art) will repeat in future weeks but the specific topic (what artwork we make) for each theme will never repeat.

Art supplies - the specifics are completely up to you!
If you are unsure what to use, I recommend starting simply with paper and a pencil. A regular pencil, soft lead pencil, or charcoal are all great choices for the drawing tool.
