Reading with Phonics: Long Vowel Words With Mrs. Rose (Level 6): In this class, students will read one and two syllable words with long vowels (cvce words). Using letter symbol cues and pictures, students will practice the sounds, how to blend, and read words with long vowels. A worksheet is provided for the student to support the activity in class, for word and hand writing practice. Students will be exposed to oral language practice for phonemic awareness (recognition and play with sounds), fine motor skills to increase writing ability, and phonics skills to read words. Powerpoints are used as the main presentation. Digital reading books will be used as needed, to supplement the practice of reading words in text. ***Students must know all letters, sounds, and decoding short vowel words to be successful in this class.*** ***In order for me to assist your child while reading, I do require cameras to be turned on during class. I need to be able to see their mouths and how they are forming the sounds in words.*** Week 1: Read and build long /a/ words cvce pattern (example: tape, made) Writing long /a/ words Week 2: Read and build long /i/ words cvce pattern (example: time, line) Writing long /i/ words Week 3: Read and build long /o/ words cvce pattern (example: hope, zone) Writing long /o/ words Week 4: Read and build long /u/ words cvce pattern (example: fume, cute) Writing long /u/ words Week 5: Read and build long /e/ words cvce pattern and /ee/ (example: eve, these, see) Writing long /e/ words Week 6: Read and build long /a/ words /ay/ and /ey/ pattern (example: day, they) Writing long /a/ words /ay/ and /ey/ pattern Week 6: Review cvce (a, e, i, o, u) and /ay/ and /ey/
Learning Goals
In this class, students will be able to read words with long vowels sounds. Using letter symbol cues and pictures, students will practice the sounds, how to blend, and read words using simple text. Students will also participate in phonemic awareness exercises to continue to strengthen their reading skills.

Each week, the worksheets will be posted to the classroom page. Students will need the worksheet during class time each meeting. When letter cards are provided, please have learner cut out letter cards prior to class. Your child maybe more organized with magnetic letters and a board. a marker (I have found markers to work best, as then I can see the writing when students share.) white board and marker a quiet workspace

I truly believe in hands-on learning, using a variety of teaching styles to meet all students where they are. What works for one student, may not work for another. I am always ready to make changes to to help each and every student learn. I am married with an inquisitive 9 year old daughter. She truly keeps me on my toes as I watch her grow and learn. We also have a 5 year old Boxer-Lab pup who completes our family.
