Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
In this ongoing class, students will be given instruction to learn, practice, and master the letters of the alphabet! Since this is an ongoing course, each class is a stand-alone lesson with one letter introduced. Students may join this class at any point! Since this class will meet twice a week, we will learn two different letters each week. We will work our way through the entire alphabet, in alphabetical order, from “Aa” to “Zz.” When all letters have been taught, we will add digraphs “th, sh, ch, and wh.” During each class, students will learn and explore one letter (or digraph) in a “Read it, Say It, Write it, Show it” format:

Greeting/Introduction to Class and Class Rules
Read it (Letter Recognition)
Say it (Letter Sound)
Write it (Proper Letter Formation for Handwriting)
Show it! (“Show and Tell” time: this can be one or two things that your learner would like to share with the class. One, or both, can start with our letter sound of the day, or neither! All show and tell items will be used in the learning, no matter what it is!)

The Show and Tell portion of this class is always optional! If you have a shy learner who does not want to share, that is perfectly fine! I will always gently encourage all students to share if they choose to and even aid them in sharing if needed. I want all students to feel comfortable and have fun in my class! If your child would like to share something, just have it available and nearby for easy access during class!

For the handwriting portion, we will learn correct letter formation and practice this through movement and writing. Your child can successfully complete this class without any extra resources! However, I encourage all learners to have some sort of writing tools, such as a whiteboard and dry-erase marker, magic doodle board, or pencil/crayons and paper. I will include a print-out that can be printed before class for in-class use during the handwriting portion if you choose. This is always optional.

Parental Guidance
Since this is a class for young learners, I just ask that a parent or adult be around (within hearing distance) to help if/when needed (example: to help unmute when needed or if technical issues arise and the student needs help in order to hear/speak/participate). Thank you for your support!
Supply List
For the full experience, students should have something readily available to write with (ex: paper and pencil/pen/crayon, whiteboard and dry-erase marker, magic doodle board, etc.) to participate in the handwriting portion of the class. However, students can still benefit from the learning in this class without writing materials!

Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and am certified in EC-6 (Early Childhood through 6th grade) and ESL (English as a Second Language) . I taught kindergarten for four years, and I have experience in and a passion for teaching early elementary skills. During my time as a teacher, I have worked with elementary students of all ages through whole class, small group, and one-on-one settings. I believe that reading is an important foundation for so many other skills, and building confidence and fluency in letter knowledge is a huge part of beginning that road to success. I am excited to use my knowledge to teach young learners in a fun way! Thank you for considering me as an Outschool teacher for your child!
