This class teaches essential story elements, such as characters, plot, and setting, through guided writing and input from the teacher and peers. In addition, the teacher will guide learners through the writing process. This class is appropriate for every learner. The class size is intentionally small, so every student may have ample opportunity to conference with the teacher and interact with their peers. This allows us to focus specifically on each student and their opportunities.

This class is an ongoing writing club. There is no theme, and there are no planned lessons. Instead, it's all about teacher conferencing and peer-supported editing and writing. Need help figuring out what to write about? No problem! I have oodles of writing prompts and fun ideas for your learner.

Example writing prompts:
- Imagine one day in science class, a science experiment goes wrong, and now you and all of your classmates have superpowers! What are your superpowers, and what do you do with them?
- Some people alive today grew up without computers or video games. What would you do if you didn't have a computer or video games? How would life be different?
- Think of a time you laughed so hard you cried. What was so funny? Write about it!
- Oh no! An evil genie escaped from his bottle and is destroying the world! First, the genie stole all the stars from the sky. Next, he took away all the colors from the world. What else will this evil genie do?

Class Structure:
•	Learners individually greeted and welcomed.
•	A quick "supply check-in" ensures all learners have the necessary materials.
•	Discussion of class rules.
            - ASK when you have questions.
            - Raise your hand for any questions.
            - Do YOUR best.
            - Be kind to yourself and your classmates.
	    - Have fun!
•	Learner writing and conferencing time.
•	Learner story-sharing.
•	Class summary and Q&A session.
•	After class (optional): You may submit your learner's work to me via Outschool messenger. I will provide feedback and encouragement that you can share with your learner.

It is my goal to create a fun, interactive learning environment. I believe that when children have fun, they learn the most. I love to learn and teach. I strive to make each of my classes as interactive and encouraging as possible. I appreciate your interest in my class, and I hope to see your learner in the classroom!

A note from Ms. Lindsay:
A certain level of independence is required for this class. While I am here to help your learner succeed, this is a group course. Learners can expect that I will check in individually at least twice during the writing portion of the class. Every student will have the opportunity to share what they have written during the class that day. If time allows, I will allow students to read more, but we must be respectful to all learners and ensure each student has an opportunity to share their writing from that day.

I assure you that you won't find a more supportive and encouraging teacher. I want your learner to succeed with this class, and I will do everything to facilitate that. If you have questions, please reach out to me.

Important Reminders / Outschool & Class Policies

* Mute/learner removal reminder: There are times in class when "muting" all learners is necessary. If I plan to mute the class, I inform the class first. If a learner consistently calls out, is disrespectful, or purposefully causing a disruption, I must mute that learner. Under rare circumstances, I may remove a learner from the classroom due to unmanageable behavioral issues. If this occurs, I will reach out to the learner's parents within 24 hours of the incident to discuss the next steps.

**Class refund requests: Please use this link to review Outschool's happiness guarantee/refund policy. I will NOT issue refunds for missed classes. Please submit

***Tuition/class payment: Outschool automatically bills enrolled learners each Sunday for that week's class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Frostburg State University
I have nearly a decade of teaching experience in various settings. I've taught in the brick-and-mortar setting as well as online. Writing is a topic that I am personally passionate about. While working in the brick-and-mortar school setting, I would frequently work 1:1 with special needs students to help them become better writers and accomplish the goals outlined in their IEP's.

My degrees/certifications are:
• Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education
• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education
