Beginner Level
Thank you for choosing Let's Write an Anthology! We are going to have a ton of fun and learn a variety of poetry styles along our journey. Your child will learn to write Haiku, acrostic, cinquain, limerick, Ghazal, Ekphrastic, list, color, concrete, cento, lyric, and diamante poems. At the end of the 8-week course, your child will publish to me, an anthology through Google Docs. Class will begin with attendance and a check in. We will then delve into the topics as outlined in the syllabus by reading example pieces, discussing key concepts aligned with each poem, and write our own. Students will have time to write for 5-10 minutes, and share based on random selection of who goes first. I most closely align with a facilitator teaching style where students are at the forefront of their education with myself as a guide to them. Learners will interact with each other in a variety of ways including breakout sessions, and whole group discussions.
Learning Goals
Students will develop strong writing skills, explore different poetic forms and techniques, and understand the editing and revision process. To publish an anthology of poems, students will also learn about the submission process, formatting, and how to create a cohesive collection. It's an exciting project!
