Let's Work on Those Quads! Identifying the Elements of and Classifying Quadrilaterals

Students will identify a variety of quadrilaterals (squares, rectangles, parallelograms, rhombuses, trapezoids, kites, etc.) and their individual properties and will utilize a graphic organizer to sort and show the relationships of those properties among the quadrilaterals.

Class Experience

This lesson was always one of my students' favorites. They enjoyed the challenge of trying to find all the possible niches that each quadrilateral could fit into. It's fun to see the higher level thinking that is employed when common shapes are viewed differently based on varied criteria, and the completed graphic organizer gives a concrete visual for solidifying comparative connections.
Upon class registration, four AIMS “Quad Squad” sheets will be provided for download and printing. It is not necessary to begin any work on these pages prior to class. Students will need a glue stick, scissors and a zipper bag.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
