Class Experience

Calling all lovers of polymer clay! Come hang out with Ms. Summer and other artists for an hour each week! This class is designed to drop in and out as you like, so you can decide how often you want to share and chat. 🙂

***Since this class is designed as a SOCIAL CLUB, learners should already be interested in, and hopefully working with, polymer clay. They should come to class with their own projects, ideas, and/or questions. There will NOT be any set weekly projects; weekly topics are completely learner-directed!***

Each week, each learner will be able to share what they’ve made, been working on, and/or plan to make next. Learners may offer each other compliments, ideas, tips, and advice. They can also ask Ms. Summer for ideas, tips, and advice surrounding their artwork.

If your learner works with a different type of clay (e.g., air-dry), they are welcome to join us! **But they should be aware that some topics we could talk about (e.g., baking our pieces) might not apply to their clay art.**

If your learner is interested in this club but hasn’t worked with clay yet, I suggest they first try one (or both) of my flex classes!

Classroom Expectations: I don’t have a big list of rules for conduct in my classroom. Ideally, we all want to learn and work together to make that happen. Mainly, I ask for two things: 1) Be respectful to me and other classmates; and 2) Have fun!

* In each of my classes, I strive to ensure an affirming environment for LGBTQIAP2S+ and neurodiverse students. If you have any other questions, please reach out to me! *

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We won’t be using an oven in class, but students might need oversight and help when baking their pieces after/between classes.
Supply List
For each meeting, learners should have easy access to whatever they’d like to share (e.g., their latest clay projects) with everyone that week. It’s up to each learner if they’d like to actively be working with clay/making things during class. If so, I’d recommend they have their work area (with all needed supplies, etc.) set up before the meeting begins to minimize interruptions.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Many of my classes here on Outschool have been inspired by childhood obsessions of mine and this one is no exception! I’ve been working with polymer clay since I was seven years old. I’ve also taught over 500 clay classes here on Outschool and independently. I love tiny things, so I absolutely love making miniatures! I’m so excited to share my passion for polymer clay with your learner(s)!
