Let's read! This class is for students that read on a 4th grade reading level who love to read and enjoy interacting in class. In this class students will read an informational article about how and why the body sneezes and how to stop the spread of germs. Students will also read a fun and fictional short story about a little dog who always wants more in life. Students will then be guided through reading comprehension questions. Students will be asked to read out-loud and share their answers with the class. Students will be given the opportunity to interact with each other to share their thoughts and feelings about the stories.
Learning Goals
Students will expand their understanding of:
1) How to use context clues to define new vocabulary.
2) How to describe characters, settings, or events by using specific details from within the stories.
3) How to determine the main idea of an article.
4) How to determine the lesson of a story.
5) How to answer questions in a complete sentence.
6) How to answer questions in paragraph form.Other Details
Supply List
Students will be provided both the reading material and the corresponding practice questions. Students will be expected to print out the worksheets. Students will need a pencil. A highlighter is recommended.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hi everyone, my name is Kayla. I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am also TEFL/TESOL certified. My everyday occupation is an ESL teacher. I teach English to kids who are 3-13 years old.
Teaching is a passion of mine and I love being creative with my lessons. I enjoy teaching English but I also love sharing my passions with my students. Some of my passions are baking, art, dogs and car racing. In my classroom, students are encouraged to have fun and be creative while learning. When I teach, I use props, slideshows and interactive activities to help students understand the lessons. My classroom is a safe space where everyone is respected and treated fairly. I believe that peer-to-peer interactions and feedback are essential to a child's education. My classes are fun and educational at the same time!
