Do you want to play the violin? Do you have an instrument that you are just itching to play! Do you want to learn the basics, so you can start to play the songs you like? In this eight-week course, beginners will learn the violin fundamentals to start playing the violin with confidence. They will learn how to hold the violin and bow, how to pluck the violin strings, how to play the violin with the bow, how to use their fingers to produce notes (fingerings), and how to play fun and easy to learn songs. **Please have violin tuned before classes Learning Goals: 🎻Violin Instrument Anatomy 🎻String Names 🎻How to hold the violin in 2 ways 🎻How to hold the violin bow "bunny ear" bow hold 🎻Finger exercises for dexterity and agility 🎻How to play different rhythms with the bow 🎻Songs include: "Hot Cross Buns" & "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" Class is structured as follows: 1. Warm Ups and Icebreaker 2. Technique to Focus on 3. Song Practice 4. Ending Game to Solidify New Skills *On the last day of class, students will be encouraged to play a song they have learned in class. This is the perfect way to show what they have learned and feel confident that they have mastered a song!* I look forward to seeing your beginner soon! REMINDERS: 🎻Please have the violin tuned before class. I will briefly talk about tuning and demonstrate this in class, but the violin should be tuned before classes start, so that no time is taken during class to tune. 🎻Students will need to bring finger tapes to the 3rd class session. They may need parent help to put these on. We will do this in class. *FREE RESOURCES* When enrolled, students will receive helpful learning resources, including: ➡️A personal student workbook to bring to each class ➡️Play along videos for all new songs learned in class ➡️Daily practice tips and tricks on the class page
Learning Goals
In this eight-week course, beginners will learn the violin fundamentals to start playing the violin strong and confidently. They will learn how to hold the violin and bow, how to pluck, how to play the violin with the bow, how to use their fingers to produce notes (fingerings), and how to play fun and easy songs, like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Hot Cross Buns, and more!
We will also go over how the violin is tuned, how to take care of the violin, and some basic music theory - like note names and rhythms.

🎻An appropriate sized violin. If you are struggling to find an instrument, please let me know. 🎻A shoulder rest or sponge is recommended for comfort and ease of playing. It is important to get the correct size. 🎻A tuner or tuner app. I recommend "Tuner Lite" on the Apple App Store. 🎻Rosin 🎻Finger tapes. Links to purchase are below. Learning should be both valuable and engaging, which I strive to offer in all of my classes. I also believe music is the ultimate expression of emotions and human connection, which is why I love to bring music to the Outschool classroom.
*My style for teaching is "out of the box" to instill a passion for lifelong learning.*
Philosophy:
It is important to me to offer a comfortable learning environment where students will feel free to express themselves and grow. Students will enjoy interacting with me and their peers with games that allow them to connect with others and express themselves, including their own interests and passions.

- Experienced K-12 Music Teacher
- Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music Education (Violin and Vocal Performance)
- 3 Years Experience General Music and Choir Teacher for Elementary, Middle and High School
- 10+ Years Experience Teaching Private Violin Lessons
- Lifetime Experience Studying and Performing Music
*My students have gone on to play in school orchestras, perform auditioned solos in choir, perform confidently in talent shows, and audition for various musicals. The students are who make it possible, I just guide them to be their greatest!
