Homework
It is suggested that students practice what they have learned in class for 10 minutes a day. This will ensure a positive class experience. Students are encouraged to play calmly, without overblowing. (I know families appreciate this!)Assessment
Students can submit videos for feedback from the teacher.Class Experience
This course is for students who have mastered B, A, G, and C. They can easily play songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Shave and a Haircut, and Baby Shark. They are ready to learn new notes! These students can easily hold a recorder and cover holes with their right AND left hand fingers. This course will be taught through recorded video. This allows students to move at their own pace. Students will have the ability to submit videos of the songs learned throughout the course through FlipGrid. The teacher will provide feedback on videos and also recommendations. Live student to teacher meetings can also be arranged. Recorded videos range from 20 to 30 minutes, depending on content needed for the week. During this course we will be adding notes in the right hand. This is a great course for students who have completed my Let's Play Recorder Level 1 (live or FLEX) course successfully and are ready for more, or students who have already begun learning the recorder in school or on their own. During this course we will add the notes low C, D, and E, while we continue to utilize B, A, G, and C. Each class will be comprised of one or two songs that will allow students to become familiar with these new notes, and also continue to increase their confidence in reading rhythms and notes on the staff. I strive to create a fun and beneficial learning environment. During recorded classes, students will not only be learning to play the recorder, but they will also be acquiring skills that will enable them to read and play music independently. To do this, they will be using, not just their recorders, but also their voices and bodies to help them understand pitch and rhythm. Singing notes and using movement to reinforce concepts greatly influences success! Week 1: Review B, A, G. Play through multiple songs. Introduce low E. Students will have the opportunity to play for the class via Flipgrid. Week 2: Review E, introduce more songs to reinforce. Review high C and D. Introduce/Review quarter, half, and eighth notes. Introduce high E. Students will have the opportunity to play for the class via Flipgrid. Week 3: Review learned notes. Introduce low C. Review reading notes on the music staff. Learn to write a simple song. Share song via FlipGrid. Week 4: Review all notes, rhythms, and note values previously learned. Review songs and play together. Low D and F will be introduced. Students will have the opportunity to play for the class via Flipgrid.
Learning Goals
Students will work to master the notes B, A, G, C, D, and E. They will also be given an introduction to low F. As they learn to finger the notes on the recorder, they will also learn to read music on a musical staff and identify note values.
