There is an optional 16 page printable available for parents who are wanting more watermelon themed learning activities to do at home . The PDF includes handwriting practice, basic math problems and symmetry drawing.Class Experience
In this class we will paint 3 kawaii (cute) watermelon characters. This is a super simple craft for complete beginner artists. I will demonstrate the artwork step by step so this class is suitable for even those with low English capabilities . The characters are created by folding and cutting 3 printed templates to make a mask for the shapes. Then paint is applied with a brush or a sponge . The seeds are added last with Q tips. We will also look at photos of how watermelons are grown during the class. This is a relaxed and fun class for kids who enjoy making art and learning a little bit about nature at the same time.
Learning Goals
Students will fold and cut 3 printed templates. This will let them practice their fine motor skills and scissor skills. Cutting the folded paper also helps the students learn about symmetry.
Students will learn about how watermelons grow by looking at photos and videos of farms.
Students will be shown how to mix paint colors. They will learn red + white = pink , and yellow + blue = green .
