In this 1-hour course, the learner will learn the reading comprehension skill of visualization. This reading strategy will assist them in better comprehension of any text.

An imaginary trip will be taken and the learner will capture a picture of the trip and be asked to draw it out. The teacher will be able to determine the students mastery of the skill based on the picture and the previous discussion that took place.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 4
The reading comprehension strategy of visualization will be taught in this section. The learner will practice this strategy by listening to poems and then describing what they saw through drawing and verbal discussion. They will take an imaginary trip and be able to verbally share and draw the scene they capture in their minds. This section will be interactive with engagement among the learners and teacher to share their "movies in their mind". It will be discussed how everyone may interpret a scene different and connection of how "seeing" the story or poem unfolds increases understanding of the text. There is no previous knowledge needed to actively participate in this course. The course will be structured with an introduction of the learners and teacher, direct instruction of the skill, opportunities to practice the skill, and finally an imaginary trip to assess the learner on application of the skill.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the reading comprehension strategy of visualization and be able to apply it. They will understand how using this strategy can improve their reading comprehension and increase their love of reading.
