Class Experience

US Grade 1
Are you looking for a fun class to help your child become excited about reading? This class meets once weekly and will help build confidence in readers as we learn some of the basic foundations of learning to read in engaging ways!

Sight words are frequently used words that students should recognize while reading. When students have a list of sight words they know in a snap, it helps them to be more fluent and confident readers (so they don't have to spend time sounding out every single word)! This is a very important step in learning how to read independently. In this course, students will be engaged in many multisensory, hands-on activities to help them learn many of the Dolch sight words, while learning some important phonics sounds that will help them understand reading better! Each class, students will have a mini phonics lesson where they will be taught a 'word chunk' such as a digraph (examples: sh, ch, wh, th), vowel team pattern (examples: ee, ai, ew), diphthongs (examples: oo, oi, oy), and more! We will look for this new word chunk in words and then we will look at 2-3 Dolch sight words that follow that same/similar phonics pattern. Students will then be shown a fun way to practice their sight words some more at home with a game or activity! Through repetition, students will be writing, reading, and playing games to help them learn their sight words in a snap! Whether they are newer to sight words or just need a little review, this class will cover many Dolch sight words through third grade. We will also practice reading reading some blends and digraphs, finding the words in a sentence, and reading with expression! This class helps students work on sight words along with some other common word parts that will help them to be more confident and successful in learning how to read! These word parts will help children as they read, write, and spell! We will work on digraphs, blends, r-controlled vowel teams, long vowel teams, and much more! Students will learn some rhymes and tricks to help with their spelling as well and to help them read our sight words. Students will be guided and supported as we learn how to decode and read more word parts and sight words during our time together!

This will be a fun and inclusive class so I hope your learner will join us! Feel free to join us at anytime! Each class spends time reviewing sight words and word chunks we have covered in earlier classes. :)

**Please note that this class is for learners who are able to identify and write their letters and reading some basic CVC words (cat, run, big). If your child still needs a little help with writing letters, parent support off-camera is appreciated. Please let me know if you have questions about whether this class may be a good fit for your child. If your child is not secure in letter names and sounds, I do have a class on learning letters and sounds that is multisensory as well! I also have a class to help children learn how to blend CVC words together and a learning to read class 1 with learning to read CVC words and decodable sight words. You can see each class description for more details, but please message me with any questions so I can help you find the right fit class for your learner! :)

*With different sections going on, please be sure to check the right class time for what topics will be covered. Each session is on a different lesson. Feel free to message me with any questions! :) *
