In this class, we will learn everything we need to be successful on recorder. We will start with the basics: hand position, proper breathing, treble clef, rhythm reading, and the first three notes (B-A-G). We will also learn songs through echo singing and playing as well as note reading. In the second lesson, we will practice skills learned in the first lesson, and we will learn and practice a new song. Lesson three will introduce a new note (E) and we will practice making our own short compositions. In lesson four we will learn another new note and another song. We will also continue to practice composition. Lesson five will be dedicated to practicing everything that we have learned to that point. In the sixth lesson, we will learn more notes and a new song. In lesson seven, we will learn the final new notes and the last new song. Lesson eight will be our last chance to practice as a class, then we will play all of the songs that we have learned, and finally share our compositions with each other. Over the course of eight weeks, we will learn all of the basic soprano recorder notes, several songs, and compose our own short pieces to play for the class. We will learn by playing recorder in every class.
Students will learn one octave on the soprano recorder, at least four songs, and how to write their own recorder compositions.Students should have a soprano recorder to play. All other supplies will be provided by the teacher.
Hello!
My name is Laurel and I teach music to all age levels. I have nine years of experience teaching music in public schools to students ages 3-18. I believe that anyone can learn music and anyone can benefit from experiencing music. I teach general music through vocal exploration, ear training, and play. I also teach low brass to students 10 years old and up. I continue to learn as an adult, and am currently working to learn the guitar!
I hope to see you soon!
