Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 7
In this course students will learn how to multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers. Students will then make sure their answers are simplified and proper fractions. This class will begin with a short lecture with a white board, manipulative, and examples followed by student problems that will be completed on their white boards or paper. Students will be encouraged to share their thinking and process when problem-solving. Pictures and models will be used first and then I will teach and encourage the use of an algorithm!
Meeting 1: Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa, simplifying fractions
Meeting 2: Multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, we will incorporate word problems this session too!
Meeting 3: Dividing fractions and mixed numbers.
Meeting 4: Fraction word problems that involve multiplication and division.

Each class will end with a short assessment to help me tailor the next session for your learner.

Learning Goals
