In this fun and exciting course, we will learn all about the different instruments used in an orchestra. We will go through each section including the wood winds, the brass instruments, the strings, and percussion. We will look at visual aids for each major instrument and then we will listen to a small track that will help us to hear what they sound like. We will learn about each section and the some of different instruments that are used. In the woodwinds section, we will talk about the oboe, bassoon, clarinet, flute, and saxophone. We will learn about the different reeds that are used and demonstrate how to blow on them. Next we will discuss the brass instruments. We will talk about the trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba. We will talk about how those are played and then hear how they sound like. Then we will talk about the percussion section. There we will talk about some of the different instruments used in this section, and how they are used. Last, we will talk about the string section that includes the violin, violas, cellos, and bass. We will listen to each one to figure out how they differ. Last we will discuss what we learned and talk about what our new favorite orchestra instrument is!
Learning Goals
Students will learn the differences between the main instruments used in an orchestra. By the end of the class, they should be able to pick out at least a few specific instruments in an orchestra. If your child is trying to learn an instrument, this might be a good course to help your child figure out which one they would like to play!

Hello! My name is Brooke Bauer. I have taught many subjects over the past few years, mainly teaching English as a second language. I am excited to teach for Outschool, where I can focus on piano lessons and music history classes. I teach piano lessons, where students not only learn how to play, but also learn about music theory and how to read music. I grew up taking piano and oboe lessons, and I also learned how to play other woodwinds. I have always loved music and it continues to shape me as a person. I am so excited to share this special way of expressing ones self with your children. In all of my classes, I always aim to create a fun, interactive learning environment where children will feel excited to learn!
