Beginner Level
Students will learn the basic functions of a sewing machine and how to complete a sewing project. The sewing project for this course will be a reading pillow. It features a front pocket to store books, writing tools, or even snacks! The course details are as follows: Week 1 and Week 2 •Learn the important parts of the sewing machine •How to thread a needle or use the needle threader •How to wind a bobbin •How to sew with a zigzag stitch and straight stitch Week 3 and Week 4 •How to sew...

Preparedness includes: completing worksheets, preparing fabric by cutting out patterns. Becoming familiar with the sewing machine and course materials, will help the child succeed in this class.
1 file available upon enrollmentMaterials List: Week 1 and Week 2: Sewing Machine sewing needles spool of thread for machine scissors ruler marking tool (tailors chalk, fabric pen), scrap fabric (old bed sheets, torn T-shirt), practice print out sheet (if printer available) Week 3 and Week 4: Fabric: 1/2 yard of main fabric (Cotton or woven fabric will be good) 3/8 yard for pocket (can use same color fabric for pocket or choose different print. Use your creativity.) Pillow stuffing (can use a bag of Polyfil, batting, or filling from an old pillow) Supply list will be sent for Weeks 5-8 and is dependent on what students choose for their upcoming projects.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students may need assistance with items such as cutting with scissors and threading sewing needles.
