Did you know music has a special alphabet? It sure does, and each key on your piano is a letter of the musical alphabet! In this class, we will review what letters are apart of the musical alphabet before naming each of the 7 letters on the keyboard. We will use some tricks and some creativity to learn how to locate each letter on the keyboard, and use “keyboard geography” to help us quickly locate keys. To strengthen what we have learnt, we will then play some tunes using the keys we learnt and common hand positioning locations. This class will be taught using interactive games, creative tricks, and review activities with an enthusiastic and patient teacher who’s passion is to help students discover their own joy in music. By the end of the class, students will gain confidence in their abilities to name each key on the piano, and transfer their learning to playing simple songs. This class is perfect for learners who have an interest in the piano and have had some time “experimenting with sounds” or playing simple songs on the black keys, however haven’t yet learnt the names of the keys. A small background of the piano will be helpful, but not absolutely required prior to this course. If the student is familiar with the black key pattern (groups of 2 and groups of 3’s) and their full alphabet, that will be very beneficial to their learning. If this is the students’ first piano experience, they are encouraged to sign up for “Pondering About the Piano” prior to this class. Learning Goals
1)Students will learn and review the 7 letters of the musical alphabet (ABCDEFG)
2)Students will review and locate the groups of 2’s and groups of 3’s across the keyboard
3)Students will learn how to independantly find middle C and its important landmark in finding the other letters.
4)Students will learn how to find the other letters of the musical alphabet with ease, using creative tricks.
5)Students will learn how to place both hands in C position, and its importance for beginning many songs.
6)Students will apply their knowledge through learning some simple tunes and creating their own short songs.Other Details
Supply List
-A piano or keyboard (Please position camera so teacher is able to see both the students and their hands on the keys) -Small Sticky notes or small pieces of paper with tape -Pencil and eraser

Welcome, Learners and Families!
I'm delighted to be teaching piano classes here on Outschool.
As a piano teacher, I have 10 years of experience teaching group and private piano to children of all ages and levels. I have been teaching on Outschool for 4 years, and have loved meeting such wonderful learners from around the world!
I have achieved my Level 10 Piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music, which has allowed me to study and perform pieces in all musical styles. I've completed courses in piano pedagogy (meaning: learning how to teach music), as well as Musical Harmony, Musical History, and Theory courses. My goal is to teach in a fun, encouraging, and engaging way for students to find the joys that music offers, and develop a lifelong appreciation for music. I'm excited to see your child develop creativity, confidence, and may other wonderful skills through music. I offer group and 1-on-1 classes for all ages and levels. Please don't hesitate to send me a message if there are no times posted that work for your schedule and I will do my best to find an alternative time!
Outside of teaching, I work as an Occupational Therapist. I also love to learn new pieces on the piano, and hope to learn the cello one day! I love hiking, playing soccer and badminton, and a yummy ice cream cone.
My goal is to teach in a way that sparks curiosity and creativity in students, where students leave the class feeling confident and excited to continue learning and sharing their love for music with others.
