In this flex class, students will watch a video each week to learn about something in space. I will be using a green screen so students will feel immersed in space. We will explore actual photos of space and do crafts and experiments that might even be edible. Each week will be something new about Space. Week 1Lesson 1Let's Learn About MercuryWatch the video and learn all about Mercury, the 1st planet from the Sun. We will be doing a craft to learn all about the surface of Mercury. You will need: Round pie pan Flour Some small snack like chocolate chips, raisins, peanuts, chips, or anything else similar (These will be the meteors that hit the planet)Week 2Lesson 2Let's Learn About VenusWatch the video and learn all about Venus, the 2nd planet from the Sun. For the craft we will be making a volcano! You will need: 4-5 tbsp baking soda 1 tsp dish soap 5-6 drops of any color food coloring 1 cup vinegar Cup or bottle Water (to fill 1/4 to half of whatever cup you are using) Plate or tray to go underneath for easy clean upWeek 3Lesson 3Let's Learn About EarthWatch the video and learn all about Earth, the 3rd planet from the Sun. For the craft we will be doing a mess free painting (or you can just paint)! You will need: -Paper plate or paper cut into a circle -Washable paint - blue and green (can use plain or vanilla yogurt with blue/green food coloring if you don’t have paint, make sure to mix well and separately) -Paintbrush or sponge For mess free: -Clear plastic covering (plastic bag or plastic cling wrap) -Tape to secure covering to plateWeek 4Lesson 4Let's Learn About the MoonWatch the video and learn all about the Moon. For the craft, we will be cutting the white paper into a circle and gluing it on the black paper. This part is optional. If you want to just draw a circle on the white paper and have them paint inside the circle, you can do that! You will need: -foil -white paper -marker or pencil -black paper -gray paint optional: white and black paint -scissors -glue -optional - something round to traceWeek 5Lesson 5Let's Learn About MarsWatch the video and learn all about Mars, the 4th planet from the Sun. Our craft will be learning about the surface and soil on Mars. You will need a bowl or plate and some sort of edibles that can be crushed up into different sizes. This can be anything you might already have on hand. For example: -Crackers -Tortilla chips -Cookies Each student can go through the different senses for whatever foods they have, talking about what their "soil" tastes, smells, feels, sounds, and looks like.Week 6Lesson 6Let's Learn About JupiterWatch the video and learn all about Jupiter, the 5th planet from the Sun. We will be learning about the storms that happen. Some have been happening for hundreds of years. For the craft you will need: -bowl -milk -dish soap -food coloring (need 2 colors)Week 7Lesson 7Let's Learn About SaturnWatch the video and learn all about Saturn, the 6th planet from the Sun. You will need: -string, yarn, or ribbon -ball, toy, or something else you can tie the string around You will also need an area that your child can move around in. We will be tying the string to the object and spinning it around in a circle so you will need space.Week 8Lesson 8Let's Learn About UranusWatch the video and learn all about Uranus, the 7th planet from the Sun. Parents will need to help with this experiment so please be near your child. You will need: -Jar filled half way with warm water (like a mason jar) -Bag of ice -match (can use a small piece of paper and a lighter if you don’t have matches)Week 9Lesson 9Let's Learn About NeptuneWatch the video and learn all about Neptune, the 8th planet from the Sun. You will need: -2 bowls with water - one warm and one cold with a few ice cubes -Blue food coloring or paint to add to the cold waterWeek 10Lesson 10Let's Learn About PlutoWatch the video and learn all about Pluto! Is Pluto a planet? Why not? You will need a few pieces of iceWeek 11Lesson 11Let's Learn About the SunWatch the video and learn all about the Sun! You will need: -empty bottle -oil of some kind -food coloring (red like sun but any colors are fine, yellow is hard to see) -a funnel (optional for pouring in bottle) -waterWeek 12Lesson 12Let's Learn About the StarsWatch the video and learn all about the stars! You will need: -plate or tray -5 toothpicks bent in half but not completely broken (we will use them to make a star) -dropper (can use a spoon or something else to put a little water in the middle of the star) -waterWeek 13Lesson 13Let's Learn About Asteroids, Comets, and MeteorsWatch the video and learn all about asteroids, meteors and comets. You will need: -2 pieces of foil (one will be balled up) -RibbonWeek 14Lesson 14Let's Learn About Astronauts in SpaceWatch the video and learn all about Astronauts in Space. You will need: -Water -Glass/cup -Cardboard to cover the top of the glass -Either the sink or a big cake pan underneath (we will be seeing how gravity works and putting the cardboard on top of the glass and flipping it over to show the cardboard stays but make sure to have something just in case the water spills)Week 15Lesson 15Let's Learn About Black HolesWatch the video and learn all about Black Holes. You will need (see attached photo, as well): -Paper -Tape -Scissors -Small ball -Cup (See picture example attachment in post with video)
