In this class, students will learn 16 new dog tricks. We also focus on having fun with our dogs with positive reinforcement techniques and building a strong connection with our dogs through training.
I train two miniature poodles in obedience, trick learning, recall training, and the sport of dog agility. Both my dogs compete in the sport of agility.
For maximum success, students should take 5-10 minutes daily to practice the exercises learned in this class. The learner will be required to comment on the weekly post and answer the question of the week. Also, they should include a video of them practicing at least one of the exercises each week. To ensure learner-to-learner interaction, the students will also be required to reply to at least one classmate's answer to the question of the week and/or their posted video.
- A dog! Age doesn’t matter. A dog can always learn new things. - Yummy treats! I typically use high-value treats like cheese, hot dogs, freeze-dried meats, cooked chicken, etc. - Their favorite toy(s). - A leash. 6 feet is typical. - A dog bed (for the exercise "bed!") - A fun positive attitude! Dogs can sometimes be frustrating to work with. This makes success even more rewarding in the end!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners should post a video of them practicing one of the dog tricks each week. I will review the videos posted by the learners and give constructive feedback on what they did well, and what they can improve on.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
An adult should be around during dog training to supervise. This keeps the student and the dog safe.
