US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Learners should have a good grasp of letter identification and sounds. This is a FLEX version of a popular live class I have taught on Outschool for a while. This class has a FLEX class schedule, meaning that this class will not meet for live sections. Instead, it will "meet" through posts on the Outschool platform. Posts in the classroom will include pre-recorded lessons, announcements, assignments, and communication between the teacher and parent/learner. Depending on your learner's level/skills parent involvement in the class postings might be needed. This is a class for learners who are just being introduced to their letters/phonics or need a review to master the concepts. This FLEX class will be scheduled over 4 weeks. At the start of each week, I will post a prerecorded video lesson, that will be around 20-30 minutes in length. There will still be tons of interaction. To start the class, I will quickly review the letter id/sound, but this skill will not specifically be taught in this class. This class will focus on taking individual letter sounds and putting them together to form a short word, specifically CVC words (consonants, vowel, consonants). We will form short CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words, such as cat, hot, sun, leg. Together we will sound out each sound and work on blending the sounds together to form a word. We will also practice writing the letters to form the words. We will discuss the difference between real and nonsense words. Learners will visually be able to see the letters, hear the sounds and use action tricks to relate to the sounds/words. This class will be structured in the I do, we do, you do format. I will model how to form and blend the sounds to create words. Then we will continue to practice together. At the end learners will have a chance to sound out and write CVC words on their own. Week 1: I will briefly introduce each character that is associated with each letter. I explain the sound that the character makes and what letter the character represents. I will also introduce CVC words using the vowel letter 'a'. We will only form words using the vowel a. Learners will sound out individual sounds, blend them together and write the words. Example: cat, map Week 2: I will also introduce CVC words using the vowel letter 'e' and 'i' We will only form words using the vowels e and i. Learners will sound out individual sounds, blend them together and write the words. Example: pet, red, sip, pig Week 3: I will also introduce CVC words using the vowel letter 'o' and 'u'. We will only form words using the vowels o and u. Learners will sound out individual sounds, blend them together and write the words. Example: hot, top, sun, tub Week 4: This week will be a review week. We will form CVC words using all vowels. Each week I will also provide an optional task of the learner practice for "homework". Your learner can post their work or a video of your learner sounding out that week's cvc words. I try to respond to all learners' work through a video. Midweek learners will go on a scavenger hunt to an item that I share that has the vowel sound taught that week. They can post their items to the classroom; then other learners can try to find that item too and share! This brings interaction to a flex class and provides personal feedback for each learner. You can have your learner explore and watch the other learner's work/videos. Young learners love to be on camera and to watch other young learners so this is a fun educational task, but will require some parental assistance :)

Teacher expertise and credentials
This is a flex version of a popular live class I have taught on Outschool for a while.
I have taught the first level class of this course (letter id/sounds) on Outschool and learners have loved it. Feel free to check out the other class for parent reviews.
I taught Kindergarten and first grade for four years and have taught online for three years. I try to make learning fun and a way for your child to be introduced to letters/phonics where they can relate and remember what they are learning. They quickly will be singing the songs, identifying characters and reading short CVC words. I try to form a connection with each learner!
